Privacy policy – Nzesportsbets
Little personal information is needed to run a site about esports and sports betting, and Nzesportsbets collects only that. The Privacy Act 2020, through its information privacy principles (section 22), is the law that applies.
Responsible agency
Whoever runs the site is the agency responsible for personal information collected through Nzesportsbets. Name, address and e-mail can be found at esportsbetsnz.com, and all questions about personal information use that channel.
What the server records
Every page opened creates a log entry holding the IP address, date and time, the address requested, the amount of data sent, the referring page and the browser type. These logs serve security and the detection of abuse, and after 90 days they are deleted or shortened so they no longer point to a person. A message sent to the editors adds a name, an e-mail address and the message itself, used only to reply. The site has no reader accounts, deposits or bets, so payment details and identity documents are not collected.
Purposes and principles
Purposes are lawful and tied to the site: keeping it running and secure, answering messages and, after a banner choice, measuring the audience (IPP 1). People are told what is collected and why (IPP 3), and the information is used only for those purposes (IPP 10). There is no profiling and no automated decision-making.
Providers and disclosure abroad
No information is sold. Providers hosting the site, delivering its content and handling e-mail receive some, as do public authorities where the law demands. A provider may hold information outside New Zealand; disclosure abroad takes place only if the receiver is bound by comparable safeguards or the person has been told and agrees, as IPP 12 requires.
Safeguards and retention
Reasonable safeguards guard against loss and misuse (IPP 5). Information is kept while its purpose lasts (IPP 9): server logs up to 90 days, correspondence until the matter is closed and for as long as possible claims make necessary. A notifiable privacy breach, which has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, goes to the Privacy Commissioner and to those affected.
Access and correction
Each person may ask for access to information held about them (IPP 6) and for its correction (IPP 7). The answer is given as soon as reasonably practicable and no later than 20 working days after the request is received (section 40).
Complaints
Anyone who believes their privacy has been breached may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
